About Move Your Mind

The project focuses on social inclusion of vulnerable young people between the ages of 16 and 27 who are at a distance from the labor market and education. It is a follow-up to two prior projects: “Move” and “Move Beyond”. This project should be the final piece of this trilogy, aimed at developing 21 century skills. Ludodidactics will be the starting point. It is based on the learning behavior the learning experience of people.

Ludodidactics

Ludodidactics is an approach to design education or any other situation where transfer of knowledge, skills and or attitudes is intended.

Project Results

The project is divided into five project results. The different topics are: theory; (re)design part 1; profile of the trainer; design part 2 and the toolkit.

Profile of the trainer

Jari Karttunen and Seija Koskela from Jamk University of Applied Sciences wrote an article about the profile of the trainer.

Partners

The partners in the Move Your Mind project are from various sorts of organizations from Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Italy, the Netherlands and Switzerland.

Learning experiences

The partners in this project have many different roles and backgrounds and work with diverse target groups. For that reason the learning experiences may differ from each other. Be inspired and read more about our learning experiences.

The toolkit

Mastering Ludodidactics will require a lot of practice and numerous itterations. During the project we used the book and a number of tools for this purpose. Many of the tools used come from the book by Evert Hoogendoorn and Willem-Jan Renger. Some tools are derived from it or designed by the partners themselves.

Book: Ludodidactis - Designing for didacticians

Ludo didactics refers to education based on game principles. Game developers Willem-Jan Renger and Evert Hoogendoorn help you to apply new forms of learning (digital and analogue) in your education.

MDA+ & Epic Epistemic canvas

The Mechaniscs, Dynamics and Esthetics canvas is a practical tool to design your learning experience. When the roles in a game belong to a recognizable group, the epistemic framework theory shows insight in what connects this group.

Ludodidactics Workbook

During the Train the Trainer session at the HKU in Utrecht (NL) we used the workbook with more models and the ‘contextual design canvas’.

Partner interview canvas

We used this canvas during this project to interview each other. A practical tool to start with before starting a design.

Game scoop scan canvas

To engage with each other about the designs the different partners were working on, we created a game scope canvas. Inspired by an example of Evert Hoogendoorn. Besides a scan of the design we also took a critical look at the dominant theory used.

Educational Escape Rooms - Project Kit [download]

During the project lifespan SVEB presented and involved some training organisations and trainers working in Italian-speaking parts of Switzerland in Move Your Minds activities. Among them, the IFC Istituto della formazione continua, organised various activities and actively collaborated with SVEB to raise awareness about the use of ludodidactics in adult training. Pamela Lunini-Küng and Dario Tognetti, two IFC trainers, who were able to learn more about ludodidactics during a study visit to the Netherlands, developed an interesting and useful tool to help adult educators and trainers to design educational Escape Rooms.

Tip: for more inspiration, visit the website (italian & English) created by Dario and Pamela… because any form of learning can be acquired through fun.
